Gov't spends $880,000 for Tredegar funerals

Also paying for families' mattresses, food

THE Government has paid a total $880,000 to cover the funeral costs for the eight persons killed in the August 13 Tredegar Park massacre.

Minister with responsibility for Information Daryl Vaz, said the money was paid by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

The amount granted for each funeral was $110,000.

Three funeral homes — Maddens, Lindo and Sons, and Allen's Funeral Home — are handling the arrangements for the deceased.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is also assisting the families with mattresses and food packages. Each family will also receive an additional grant of $25,000.
