Occupants of house damaged by truck need assistance

THE family whose Hampshire, St Catherine, home was yesterday destroyed when a water truck slammed into the building are wondering if they will receive assistance to remove the overturned truck which landed on their house yesterday.

"The police came last night and said that they would send someone this morning. Other than that nobody came. Nobody don't come from morning either," said Shonie Henry, one of more than seven occupants of the two-storey building.

Henry's sister Shanty, luckily escaped serious injuries after the truck slipped off the unpaved roadway and rolled into the house about 1:00 pm. She was sleeping at the time of the crash.

The driver, Franklyn Hunter, received minor injuries and was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital.

At least one of the vehicle's tires went completely through one the walls on the house.

The occupants of the building and their neighbours are also concerned about their health and possible damage to the environment as the truck is leaking oil.

The residents of Hampshire and surrounding districts blamed poor road conditions as the cause of the accident and chided the Government for neglecting to fix the roads in the area for more than a decade.

Under Jamaican law the police have the power to seize the vehicle while investigating an accident.

This is really scandalous.
People's life are at risk and so far no one from the relevant government authorities has show up to make a determination to get this truck out of the people's yard.
There is the possibility of an explosion because there is gas in this truck and it could be leaking.
In addition the house could crumble and get way with more damages.
This says it all about local authorities.
This is really bad.
