BIRMINGHAM, England — It was a mixed bag for the two Jamaican women in the 400m semi-finals at the 17th IAAF World Indoors Championships at Arena Birmingham in England as, despite Tovea Jenkins making her first ever senior global final, Stephenie Ann McPherson was disqualified for a lane violation.

Jenkins, who attended Mt Alvernia High and Herbert Morrison Technical before taking up a scholarship to Johnson C Smith University, was third in her semi-finals heat in 52.42 seconds to qualify on time, securing her place in the final set for Saturday.

It was disaster for McPherson who looked confident in winning her semi-finals in 52.72 seconds by a large margin but was disqualified minutes later.

Two other women were also disqualified in the semis including Switzerland's Lea Sprunger.

The 400m events in Birmingham have been beset by disqualifications as no fewer than six men were disqualified in the morning session and three women.
