
Festival Song makes a comeback

The Jamaica Festival Song Competition, after an absence of 10 years, is being re-launched by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission. Being held under the theme "Festival Song Come Back Again.What a Bam Bam", the 10 finalists who were recently selected will compete over the next nine weeks to determine which song will be selected as the Festival Song for this Independence season.
The songs and finalists selected include: Rise & Shine by several time Festival Song winner, Roy Rayon, Old Time Festival by past finalist Michael Rutherford, Country Life by Marisco (Lynford McIntosh), Sweet Jamaica by DJ Speng (Horace Gray,) We Need Love by Versatile (Nathalee Edwards),
Banjo Man by the The Astronauts, who were winners in 1972, 1984, 1994, Jamaica Little but We Tallawah by Clevon Edwards, Festival Time Again by duo, Danny Brasko & Iya Simba, Nah Lef Jamaica by Zetto and My Jamaica by Monty Montgomery. Chairman of the Festival Song 2008 Committee, Vernon Derby is excited about the return of the competition and says that he is confident that "all Jamaica will be jumping and dancing to the winning song this independence season". The 2008 Jamaica Festival Song Album will be launched on May 27 and road shows featuring all 10 artistes will be held at strategic points across the island, culminating with the National Finals, which has been scheduled for July 12.
