ATL Automotive's Audi Terminal in New Kingston saw its line of premium offerings swell with the introduction of the 2015 S3 sedan yesterday morning.

"The S3 will bring back the excitement missing from this local market segment. It's not just sporty, but premium as well," Etus Collman, Audi brand manager, told Auto.

The Audi S3 is the top of the rung, high performance version for the recently released A3 sedan. The original A3 was developed by Audi in 1996 and was responsible for creating the premium hatchback segment. Now in its third generation, a sedan version of the perennial best seller was added in 2013. The A3 sedan went on to achieve many accolades including the 2015 World Car of the Year. The S3 builds on that solid base with the expected improvements expected of an Audi S-badged machine.

"This car is geared to young executives and lovers of performance," Collman explained.

And there is no shortage of that as the S3 delivers zero to 60 miles-per-hour in 4.8 seconds due to a two-litre, 290 horsepower turbocharged engine. 280lb-ft of torque is available from 1,350 rpm to 4,500 rpm making it extremely flexible in the rev range. All that power is fed easily through the only transmission choice, Audi's six-speed, S-tronic Dual Clutch gearbox that allows both manual and automatic shifting as the driver pleases. It wouldn't be a high-performance Audi without Quattro, the company's revolutionary permanent all-wheel drive technology, now bolstered by the latest in electronics making it truly intelligent.

"The A3 and A3 sedan have been well-received by the market and we had several people waiting to know when the S-version would be on sale," he said.

The S3 isn't just fast and sure-footed, but well appointed boasting the usual Audi premium features. The interior receives neat touches like a sporty, flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel, a 705 watt 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo integrated into the vehicle's MMI system. Driver's can take advantage of the five drive modes offered by Audi Drive Select along with Lane Assist, Auto Parking, and Adaptive Cruise Control just to name a few.

"The S3 sedan represents total driving excitement and performance doesn't get any better than this," Collman added.
