Boulevard grief expected as school reopens

With school set to reopen next week, motorists are contemplating the grief that await along the Washington Boulevard as traffic volume increase and roadwork crawls sloppily along.

Months after work started on the Boulevard expansion project, much of the area is a hole-riddled drivers' nightmare, forcing motorists into potholes and bringing traffic to a daily snarl.

Several sections of the road have been dug up and left in that state as shovel-carrying road workers move at snail's pace.

Traffic routinely back up from Drewsland (close to the Boulevard Supercentre) to the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Molynes Road. Problems continue up to Dunrobin Avenue, where roadworks have slowed traffic in the area for months, and where often-used alternative roads are close to being inaccessible.

"Now the situation is even more worrying with the new school year starting Monday, when a higher volume of traffic is expected on the highly-used corridor," a concerned parent commented.
