Cop in tussle with CVM cameraman interdicted

Thursday, July 08, 2010

POLICE Commissioner Owen Ellington has ordered the immediate interdiction of the policeman who was involved in an altercation with a CVM cameraman on Saturday, July 3 in St Ann, pending the outcome of an investigation into the matter.

The policeman has been identified as Special Constable Ricardo Lewis of the Mobile Reserve.

The police, in a news release Tuesday, said that the interdiction was deemed necessary as a result of questionable behaviour on the part of the policeman, while on duty at the scene of a fatal shooting in St Ann.

Commissioner Ellington in the meantime urged the men and women under his command to conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity and professionalism, "so that the Jamaica Constabulary Force can continue to enjoy the much-needed support from the public it serves".

A free press is the keystone of democracy and must at all times be free to report on the facts.Interference by the police and politicians is unacceptable and must not be tolerated.Suppression of the news is one way dictators try to control things and Ja is NOT a communist country neither is it a socialist country. The press has a responsibility to it's readers to report and what is going on.It keeps the country free and hopefully keeps the powers that be honest.

I have said it over and over, and I will say it againg, the MEDIA ASSOCIATION OF JAMAICA musttake steps to ensure that they can do their jobs without interference from the police. Jamaica is fastly becoming a police state, very soon the police will be able to do whatever they feel like with impunity. Remember what happened to Julian Robinsion from the OBSERVER, take heed and do something media folks, before it is too late.

OK....the move to interdict the police man in question is the right move. Note the policeman was not charged. His name appears in the Observer none-the-less. On the other hand, in another story in the Observer yesterday Re: the missing Ja$21 million from the Ministry of Finance the person who allegedly took the money and was believed to have left the Island was only mentioned as SHE!!! Come on Observer step up your quality of work. Fair, competent and unbiased journalism needed.
