Cops actions abominable and barbaric — Police Federation

Jamaica Observer

Saturday, July 31, 2010

THE Police Federation has lashed out against the actions of three cops arrested for the killing of an unarmed man in Buckfield St Ann yesterday, describing the act as abominable and barbaric.

In a release to the media, Federation Chairman Sergeant Raymond Wilson, called for the cops to be dealt with swiftly and harshly.

"Speedy actions must be taken to deal with the officers whose actions have undermined and crippled the institution of the Jamaica Constabulary Force," Wilson said.

The cops were arrested after the airing of an amateur video on television news last night. The video showed a uniformed officer beating Ian 'Ching Sing' Lloyd as he lay on the ground writhing. Another officer then stepped in front of Lloyd and fired a single shot to his upper body.

While praising the public for exposing the unprofessional behaviour of the officers involved, Wilson said the Federation viewed such action as 'uncivilized and unwarranted'.

"Members who engage in such acts against humanity will not be sheltered by the Police Federation," he said.

Welcome to the era of citizens journalism, you would think after so many precedents have been set...they would have gotten the message...a video camera can come in any form these days even a pen...

I wonder what would have happened without that amateur video?
Would it not be just another shoot-out? May God help us in Jamaica.

It's only because this case has been undeniably documented that we are getting such a response from this group. If there was no video image, we would have heard the usual recitation and broken record of a shootout. Such actions happen a lot but is covered up and condoned. I think the federation would have been better off keeping its mouth shut.

I have no pity for the man who earlier had committed a murder. Still the cop who fired that fatal bullet will have to be charged for extra judicial murder.

It's interesting to see how the Police Commissioner and the Police Federation have moved to condemn the officers involved, even BEFORE traditional bad-man-advocates like Jamaican for Justice etc.
But it's got to be asked: what "undermines and cripples" the police as an institution more- the actions of some officers in response to a murder suspect stoning them, or their trial and guilty verdict before they've even gotten a chance to go to court?

If these cops go to jail for killing a murderer which was supported by the community, then the cops that killed Kentucky Kid, a innocent man, should all be hanged.

Man recently released from jail, murdered unarmed woman, injured at least two members of the community who came to her rescue. Attacked the police with bottles and stones when they attempted to arrest him, refuse the lawful orders of the police to surrender. Continue throwing stones at the police even while on the ground, shot by police. Sounds justified to me. What this indicates is for the police to be issued none lethal means of subduing people they are arresting, such as stun guns.

It should not have to take 3 police with guns to apprehend one man even if he is mad. They could have tried to shot him in the leg or arm and if they accidentally killed him in the process, it would have been unfortunate but not disgraceful. For lawmen trained to deal with irate and difficult individuals those cops behaved irrationally; throwing blows after blows like a crazed animal is just wrong. What about goodcop bad cop? You mean to say all three in agreement?

Well, well, I have always wondered why with the proliferation of camera phones which Jamaicans seem to love, we have never been able to really used them for crime fighting.
Well I am so happy to see that at least one person was "wise" enough to do just that.
This is how we put a stop to crime and police excesses, as without this video it would have been business as usual.
BSI would have a file that takes forever to be completed.

I don't get the P.F. stand on the issue. They have not investigated the issue before making comments.I have interview eye witness to the incident n watch the whole video not clips n the facts are:The man just kill a women with a knife for a 1/4 pound of mackerel .He attack 3 individual with the same knife who observed him committing the act. These persons barely escape death.Only upon the assistance of other resident his legs were broken. He stab at the police n got shot when he trowed the stone
