It is great when we find a style and fit that complements our figure. The pity is that we tend to stick to one style note and not try others. If you're stuck in that rut, our suggestion is to try different details in elements of the design to make the garment look different.

Look 1 is a simple, long, racer-bank knit dress. A great basic with a deeper cut for a slightly different appearance.

Look 2 also features a racer-back style, but there is also a difference in the shape of the neckline and sleeve - created with interesting angles. The neckline and armhole are also finished differently - just attaching a strip, rather than facing or piping these edges.

Look 3 is a tunic with the sleeve only semi-attached, as it does not enclose the full armhole. Added details are in the gathers and slit of the sleeve.

Introducing design details allows you to stick to your most flattering silhouettes but incorporate wardrobe variations. The difference may also be in fabric choice. Take a look at what happened when we used prints.

Steps: sleeveless dress

1. Cut

(a) front (2) and back of dress

(b) front (2) and back of bodice facing

2. Join front facing to front at neck and armhole, and do the same for the back.

3. Join front to back at sides (sewing from facing hem to dress hem) and shoulders.

4. Finish seam edges.

5. Hem.
