Barker, Collins reunite for Double Barrel dates
Wednesday, August 22, 2012
Singer Dave Barker and keyboardist Ansell Collins, who topped the British national chart in 1971 with Double Barrel, will play a handful of dates in England starting this week.
The duo is expected to perform the first of their six dates on Saturday at the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally, followed by a gig the next day at the Brighton Blind Tiger. On Monday, they appear at the annual Notting Hill Carnival, a staple on the British entertainment scene.
Gigs in London, Manchester and Newcastle complete the shows.
Collins had played as a drummer on hit songs like Night Doctor during the 1960s before switching to keyboards. In the late 1960s, he teamed with Barker on Double Barrel which, released two years later in England, was a hit with Caribbean immigrants and rebellious white youth named the Skinheads.
Double Barrel earned Barker and Collins a promotional trip to England in 1971. They did a number of performances, including an appearance on the top-rated television programme Top of the Pops.
