FOR gospel singer Edwin Myers, his mission has always been more than just recording inspirational songs. It is also about ministry and impacting people's lives.

Presently, he is aligned with Errol Rattray's ministry on the crusade circuit, performing and sharing his message.

"I just want to encourage younger gospel artistes that it's not a stardom thing. The real star is Jesus," said the singer who rose to national attention in 1992 when he won the Jamaica Gospel Song Competition with Jesus Is The Man With the Plan.

Myers is also promoting his fifth studio album, Your Time Will Come. He said the title track was recorded when he was down and dejected.

"I was at a function and felt totally ignored as I was overlooked. I felt really bad and then in the midst of that I heard a whisper, 'Don't worry, your time will come'," he told the Jamaica Observer.

Not long after, Myers said he was at home reflecting on the words when he started crying.

"I said, 'Lord if this is a song you are giving me then you need to put the words in my spirit'. Like magic everything started flowing from there," he recalled.

Myers says he has been a devout Christian since 1974. He first entered the Gospel Song Contest in 1989, with the song The Lord Will Carry Us Through which placed second.

He hopes to officially launch Your Time Will Come in October.
