Saint stages Caribbean model competition this Saturday

Friday, March 12, 2010

SAINT International will be hosting its annual FashionFace of The Caribbean at the Courtleigh Auditorium tomorrow at 9:00 pm. The agency also announced the return of the Avant Garde Designer of the Year following a two-year break.

This year the event is sponsored by LIME. Ten young designers will create a themed piece around the lifestyle elements for LIME and compete for a $100,000 cash prize courtesy of LIME. Saint boss Deiwght Peters had created the Avant Garde competition as a means of encouraging creativity and rewarding talent in the design field. The contest has been the breaking ground for former winners including Dexter Pottinger, Carlton Brown, Yola Gray and REVE.

The agency will use the event as a celebration for the successes of its models at the recently concluded Paris Fashionweek.

Saint International models Shena Moulton (FashionFace 2008) and Sosheba (FashionFace 2005) conquered the runways walking more than any other Caribbean model. Shena walked for a stunning 10 designers in the Paris show weeks. However, it was Sosheba Griffith walking exclusively for legendary French house, Givenchy, that took her up a few notches on the fsahion radar. She was selected by the designer Ricardo Tisci himself. Tisci has been credited with making many new models superstars by his endorsement.

French Caribbean finalists

After months of searching, more than 60 contestants will vie for the prestigious title and hopes of becoming the next Shena Moulton, who fashion insiders are now touting as the hottest new Caribbean model. Contestants are also participating from Tobago, Martinique and Guadeloupe.

These contestants were handpicked by Peters to ensure the competition maintains its high standard for which it has become known.

Peters revealed to the Observer that a number of high profile international judges from some of the world's most powerful agencies have agreed to join his panel of judges. He refused to divulge any names. The show will feature performances by dancehall glamour girls D'Angel and Ce'Cile.

A special feature will also be the style lounge where guests will be hosted by brand such as LIME, Lascelles and Gillette.
