Two concerts to celebrate Bob
Friday, February 03, 2012
THE Corporate Area will be buzzing this weekend with two concerts celebrating the life of reggae icon Bob Marley who come Monday, would have been 67 years old.
The concerts, organised by the two major telecoms players, LIME and Digicel, will showcase major reggae acts including members of the Marley family.
The first concert, Trechtown Rock, is set for tomorrow evening at the Vin Lawrence Park in Trench Town. This concert will showcase the talents of Marley siblings Stephen, Damian, Ky-Mani, and Julian.
"We are extremely honoured to be able to pay tribute to a man who is an enduring icon associated with our beloved country, and so we believe this is the most fitting way to celebrate his life and bring the community together in a positive way," says LIME's Stephen Price.
The event will also be broadcast on LIME mobile TV.
The line-up for this also includes Tarrus Riley, Jah Cure, dancehall group TOK, Wayne Marshall, Popcaan, veteran musician Tinga Stewart, along with appearances by upcoming artistes Jah 9, Fyakin, Potential Kid, Tanto Blacks and the Uprising Roots Band.
Meanwhile, Digicel kicks off a month-long celebration of the life and work of Bob Marley with a family concert at Emancipation Park on Sunday.
The concert will feature musical tributes to the reggae legend from artistes such as Ky-Mani Marley, Freddie McGregor, Judy Mowatt, Protojé, Alaine, Coco-Tea, Romaine Virgo and as well as performances from Digicel Brand Ambassadors, I-Octane and Jermaine Edwards. Other performances will feature the Edna Manley School of Music, Uprising Roots Band and Chronixx.
Digicel's Shelly-Ann Curran notes: "We are a proud supporter of Brand Jamaica including the development of Jamaican music and the promotion of our culture, evident through our sponsorships of Brand Ambassador, I-Octane and Digicel Rising Stars; as such, we are thrilled to be back for another year to celebrate one of Jamaica's most influential musical icons".
"Last year was a phenomenal success and this year we are anticipating an even bigger and better concert as we celebrate the life and legacy of someone who can only be described as an icon of Jamaica and our culture, worldwide."
Digicel will also be participating in the birthday celebrations of Bob Marley on Monday, February 6 at the Bob Marley Museum starting with an early morning celebration at 56 Old Hope Road, followed by a grand party that evening.
