Don't mess with the laws
Monday, March 15, 2010
Dear Editor,
America's report on Jamaica is very welcoming in the sense that it shows us how we are thinking - those we don't like and who is confused from who is not confused. While most people are saying Mr Golding is wrong to keep Mr Coke out of the hands of the US, I am looking at how people in and out of Jamaica are playing with the laws of both nations.
Mr Coke is wanted in the US for the trafficking of drugs to that country and the importation of guns to Jamaica. The authorities in the US claim they have sufficient evidence to put Mr Coke on trial. Jamaicans at home and abroad think that he should be sent to the US for trial.
It was reported that reggae artiste, Mark Anthony Myrie (Buju Banton), was video-taped tasting cocaine in December last year in Florida. Again, the authorities in that country claim they have good evidence to put him on trial. A lot of people called for Buju to be sent back to Jamaica without trial.
I am confused because I can't understand why some people are calling for Jamaica to send Mr Coke to the US for trial and at the same time calling for the US to release Buju even though the US authorities think they have enough evidence to try them both.
I am not saying both men are guilty or innocent. What I am saying is that we shouldn't play with the laws of both nations because we like this person and don't like that one. One gets the impression that only gays want to see Buju go to prison and the PNP is doing its best to see Mr Coke end up behind bars. I really hope both men are innocent of the crimes the US alleges they committed.
The PNP should be ashamed of itself for giving the impression that the party is free of questionable characters. Can you imagine British politicians going to Jack the Ripper's funeral? Can you also imagine Belgian politicians going to the funeral of Marc Dutroux, a Belgian serial killer?
Why do our politicians bid farewell to some of Jamaica's most dangerous criminals? What were these politicians thinking when they went to their funerals? Now the USA's report caught them off guard, forcing them to call each other criminal and CIA. It will be interesting to see how our politicians react to this report. Are they going to stick to their old ways or are they going to stop taking the country's beloved citizens for idiots? Only time will tell.

The fact of the matter is that both side of the political fence is involved in crime and corruption. It is like six a one, half a dozen of another.
They are always bashing each other and they are both of a kind. Sad to say the majority has to choose one.

Jamaica has only itself to blame for how the US our other countries treat her. It's mind boggling how Jamaica proclaims itself to be this moral Christian nation; and yet it wreaks of corruption! And not to mention crime and crassness from every sector! Good grief! To be honest, despite my Jamaican roots, I hate visiting that place! It's like everyone just talks, but people just sit and take the crap. The youngsters need to get up and do what the older heads have failed to do
