HUMAN rights group Jamaicans for Justice today expressed its regret at the drowning of Corporal Vincent Bent, who died last week after falling into the Rio Cobre while chasing gunmen.

In a release to the media JFJ hailed Bent as a valiant cop who was intent on serving his country.

"The loss of life of a police officer demonstrates the dangerous conditions our law enforcement officials face each day. JFJ acknowledges and salutes the many hardworking, law abiding, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who risk their lives each day in an effort to ensure that Jamaicans can enjoy a safer country," the release said.

JFJ also called on the high command of the force to ensure adequate training for police officers and to plan comprehensively for future operations.

"The brave law enforcement officers who protect the lives of Jamaicans must have the necessary equipment and training to carry out their work in a professional and safe manner," the release said.
