JPS reps meet with Tivoli residents
Wednesday, June 30, 2010
Craig Francis (right) of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) addresses residents of Tivoli Gardens during a meeting in the West Kingston community on Sunday.
The light and power company will, in short order, set up a temporary business office in the community to facilitate residents, whose illegal connections were disconnected following last month's joint police/military incursion in the community.
According to reports, only a handful of the more than 4,000 residents in the community were paying for electricity prior to the incursion. The company says it also plans to include some young Tivoli residents in their summer work programme. (Photos: Aston Spaulding)

Every single law abiding consumer has been paying for these free loaders for years. My elderly parents after more than 40 yrs abroad purchased their retirement home, before they moved in they received an electric bill for $40,000, with proof of new home purchase in hand they felt this would be taken care of, (not so) 3 months in the house still no electric, with stress getting to them they went and paid, within 3 days lights was on. you are all paying every single month on your regualr bill.

The free-ness is the reason why the don as so loved. Everything free for the community at the expense of the rest of the country.
Gone are those days, so too the don.

So when is JPS going into Spanish Town, Cassava Piece etc. ? The sole focus can't be on Tivoli. There are freeloaders island wide to be found and disconnected.
The idea that the JPS should just pad my bill because they are UNWILLING to get to the root of electricity theft is unacceptable.

Otis Grant take it easy on the the editor at the Observer, they lsiten to us, and I am sure they take some of our advice, and lets be fair, although the story about DUDUS wetting his pants was a non news item, the Observer has carried some other interesting stories, so I think we could cut them some slack. So Otis, hold off on the flogging for now, and give the Observer some time to redeem themselves nuh. We too vilent, cho man.

JPS what about your paying, honest customers who have been paying for TG residents to use AC and dryers 24/7. I know many of them who need a job. Temporary or otherwise. Let them come work for you and find out any inner workings of the company or make a friend or 2 so they can theif more light. They might start calling customers and offer to "bridge light" for a fee. Now that they are no longer "protected" they are like little lambs, looking for sympathy.

what a disgrace? with the sanction and complicity of the jamaican government the JPS add an amount on the cost of regular paying consumers to make up for the amounts they can not collect from people who use current & dont pay like tivlo peoplei. i understand these people have a/c and lights burning all day and washers and dryers.this is the type of news the observer should be highlighting instead otter drivel of dudus wetting his pants !! editor shoul be flogged then fired !!
