LIME uses 'Kindness Day' to reach out to the less fortunate

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Williams and Reid were among the approximately 500 homeless and less fortunate persons across the country who were given meals as the telecommunications company marked its first annual Kindness Day.

"LIME designated the Day as a time to give back to the community and employees were given time off from work to give volunteer service at various outreach projects which the staff planned and the company financed," the company said yesterday.

More than 150 persons were fed at the Marie Atkins shelter and over 350 at the Spanish Town and St Ann's Bay infirmaries. In addition, meals and care packages were given to the indigent at the Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill in Montego bay, St James.

The Marie Atkins centre also received 100 stainless canisters to serve hot beverages.

Yesterday, LIME's managing director for Jamaica and Cayman, Geoff Houston described the celebrationa s a "smashing success".

"..We are very proud of how our employees got out of their offices and got involved in helping to make a difference," he said.

LIME Kindness Day was observed today (March 17) in all 13 countries across the Caribbean where the company operates.
