Gov’t launches Open Data Portal

KINGSTON, Jamaica - The Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology today launched the Jamaica Open Data Portal.

A ministry release Friday said the portal, which can be accessed at , is expected to make government data easily and freely accessible online.
This has been supported by the UK’s Department for International Development in collaboration with the World Bank.
Jamaica is the first English-speaking Caribbean country to launch an Open Data portal.
The release also said an Open Data Policy is being developed and a series of training have taken place to build capacity among government officials on managing the portal and creating open budget data visualisations for the portal.
