MINISTER of Labour and Social Security Pearnel Charles has called an emergency meeting for tomorrow to meet with members of the Nurses’ Association of Jamaica (NAJ), to address outstanding issues.
The meeting will involve representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance and the Public Service and the University Hospital of the West Indies.
“The Labour Ministry is prepared to work with all parties to arrive at an amicable resolution to outstanding matters,” the Ministry said in a news release this evening.
Yesterday, NAJ president Edith Allwood-Anderson threatened to renew the nurses' campaign for better wages if there was no word from Government today.
The nurses have been fighting for, among other things, a reclassification exercise and retroactive payments.
Despite their calls on the Government to set a date to proceed with the reclassification exercise, they said they are yet to receive a favourable response.
