THE St Catherine South Police yesterday charged one man in connection with last month’s brazen gun-attack in Central Village, which left a resident dead and four others nursing gunshot wounds.

Charged is 23-year-old Roland Liking, who police said is a prime figure in a bloody rivalry between factions located in ‘Big Lane’ in the community.

“He was picked up shortly after the incident and was placed on an identification parade Monday. He was fingered by two witnesses, and was subsequently charged,” said Deputy Police Superintendent Barrington Daley, anti-crime officer for the division.

Daley said Liking, in addition to one count of murder, could also face charges of shooting with intent.

He is to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, September 14.

According to the superintendent, Liking’s capture is considered a success in their relentless efforts to curtail the ongoing rivalry in the community, and the police are hoping to nab several other criminals soon.

“He is definitely one of the gangsters who have been giving us and residents in the community some problems, so we are happy to have him in custody. We believe, however, that it was about four of them that carried out the shooting, and we are looking for the rest,” Daley said.

“Its just that we have information but no names to work with as yet,” he confessed.

Police reported that about 10:00 pm on August 3, the five men were playing dominoes when they were attacked and shot by five gunmen.

The five victims were taken to hospital where 25-year-old Ricardo Suckoo, after battling his injuries for almost a month, died. The others were treated and released.
