Palmer, Lewis top Doubles Mania badminton tourney
Tuesday, September 21, 2010
Garron Palmer and Alya Lewis topped the Open section of the Doubles Mania Badminton Tournament which took place over the weekend at the Constant Spring Golf Club's Racquet Complex.
Palmer teamed with Gareth Henry to put away the top junior pair of Dennis Coke and Anthony McNee (21-15, 21-19) in the Men's Doubles, then he and Lewis defeated Henry and Kristal Karjohn (21-13, 21-14) in what was virtually a replay of the CAC Games final a little over a month ago.
Lewis teamed with the other Henry sibling, Geordine, to take the Ladies Doubles from Christine Leyow-Mayne and Kristal Karjohn (13-21, 21-14, 21-17).
These were the final competitive matches for the locally based badminton team members before their departure for the Commonwealth Games at the end of this month.
At the awards ceremony which followed, Debbie Wynter and Jamaica Badminton Association president Vishu Tolan congratulated the winners and handed out the trophies.
