Rose Heights peace ministry to honour father of slain 5-y-o

ROSE HEIGHTS, St James -- The Covenant of Peace Ministry, spearheaded by Pastor Knollis King Snr of the Rose Heights United Full Gospel Church of God, will officially honour 29-year-old Christopher 'Puppiness' Sammons on Labour Day for his valiant effort to save the lives of his two daughters who were shot up by gunmen during a riot on along Felicity Road last month.

Sammons' five-year-old daughter Christina was killed in the attack. However, his other daughter, nine-year-old Krishelle survived, after he drove away from the shooters to the Corwall Regional Hospital.

"The Covenant of Peace will honour Christopher 'Puppiness' Sammons -- a protagonist, a man of great courage, strength, and honour -- on Labour Day after a culmination of projects in the community (Rose Heights)," Pastor King announced during Sunday's emotional memorial service for Christina held at the Harrison Seventh-day Adventist Church, West Green, Montego Bay.

Tears flowed freely during Sunday's memorial service, attended by scores of mourners. Little Krishelle screamed uncontrollably in her father's arms as she got a peek of her sister's corpse in the casket at the front of the church. The distressed father cried openly throughout the service.

He was comforted by many friends and family members, including cousin Cordel Green, executive director of the Broadcasting Commission.

Green hailed Sammons for his decision -- published in the May 13 edition of the Observer West -- not to seek vengeance for his daughter's killing.

"I say to my 29-year-old second cousin, that by those words you are demonstrating what it means, not just to be a man, but an extraordinary and transformational man," Green stated. "If any good can come of Christina's murder, it is that an entire generation of vipers can look upon Christopher Sammons in his darkest hour and learn from him, what distinguishes a man from a beast."
