Smoking ganja eases pain — study
AFP
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
OTTAWA, Canada (AFP) — Smoking cannabis can relieve chronic neuropathic pain and help sufferers sleep, researchers said in a study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal yesterday.
Smoking pot also improved their mood, said the researchers led by Mark Ware at McGill University in Montreal.
Twenty-one participants in the study were asked to inhale marijuana smoke three times daily for five days.
Each suffered from post-traumatic or postsurgical neuropathic pain, caused by nerves that do not heal, for which there are few treatment options.
"A single inhalation of 25 mg of 9.4 per cent tetrahydrocannabinol herbal cannabis three times daily for five days reduced the intensity of pain, improved sleep and was well tolerated," the study concluded.
Less potent cannabis yielded "intermediate but nonsignificant degrees of relief," it added. "We found no differences in mood or quality of life" in those cases.
The most common adverse effects of the drug — found to be negligible — were headaches, dry eyes, a burning sensation in areas of neuropathic pain, dizziness, numbness and coughing.

Nobody is disputing the therapeutic uses aof Ganja, but smoking anything, including Ganja is bad for our health, this is what I personally beleive, despite what any research might suggest. But I some Jmaica have become numb to the killings due to their intoxication with Ganja and alcohol. Omar I definatle agree with you, Smoking Gnaja on daily basis WILL eventually kill you, and that I believe is tested and proven.

No wonder Jamaicans put up with so much rubbish, from Lying conniving politicians to banks charging fees to keep your money. We just tek a draw a herb and 'fagget it" I'm all for the thereapeutic and other commercial uses of ganga but I hate when people suggest that smoking it is harmless. Ihope that will not be the extrapolation created from this story.

Obviously confirming the fact that it has a numbing effect on the nerves (brain). Check its many negative effects in the Jamaica society socially. Our smoking murderers will tell you how wise they have become after smoking ganja. But are they wise? NOOOO
