CARLYN Stewart is the new president of the Lions Club of St Mary, following the annual election of officers and change of administration held at the Clonmel Primary and Junior High School recently.
"I have admired the unswerving, unwavering loyalty with which fellow Lions have served and they have all gained my utmost respect," Stewart said in her acceptance speech, while lauding those who served before her.
"I deem it an awesome privilege to be part of this noble organisation that continues to extend service to humanity not only in Jamaica, but the wider Caribbean and the world at large," she said.
Among the club's ongoing objectives this year are the continued efforts to empower the youth, moulding young lives and shaping them in choosing sound career paths.
The club said that efforts to care for the elderly will step up a gear, adding that it would also go on a public relations and marketing drive.
"There is no doubt that we will have challenges. There will be obstacles, but I am confident that at the end we will reflect on our efforts and know that we completed our job well.
"I am ready to lead our team forward and I am optimistic that our efforts as a team will be the fuel that ignites the flame of service during this upcoming year," Stewart said.
Other members of the board, which will serve until July 2011 are:
Keith Thomas, immediate past president; Leevan Freeman, first vice-president, Alva Jackson, second vice-president; Jacqueline Strachan, secretary; Nadeen Wallen, twister; Tanya Green, tamer; Monica McKenzie, membership chairman; Yvonne Williams, one-year director; Dr Ye Huaing, two-year director.
