SHE has always been a fitness fanatic—exercise was her therapy, and she didn't go a day without doing her morning workouts, even when she became a mother. Owner of Body By Wato, V Watson, says she eventually came across 'seamless' gym wear, purchased two sets for her personal use, and realised that they immediately made her feel great about herself.
“It gave me curves and definition, almost as if I already had a bodybuilder-type of body,” she related.
“I fell in love. I felt confident when wearing them, and it gave me that vibe and energy that had just needed a push to be expressed. I was always a fitness guru, but this gym wear made me become a fitness warrior!”
Having experienced that burst of confidence, Watson decided that she wanted to share this feeling with women who needed to “anchor and conquer” their health and lifestyle goals. That surge of energy and mindfulness was the inspiration for Body By Wato, an online store @cvwstylez on Instagram.
“I wanted to create an opportunity to lift women's spirits, motivate them to get up off their couches and hit the gym, and get the bodies they always wanted. I did my research and found my source and have now started the process of fulfilling this very dream of mine,” she shared.
The styles at Body By Wato are unique, the fabric is comfortable, and the pieces embody key exercise factors for motivation, confidence, and just plain fun.
But why does Body By Wato sound like a trainer programme rather than fitness gear?
“I'm presently not a trainer but this is one of my professional goals—using defence techniques to strengthen the mind and body of women,” Watson said.
“I want to help bring out that fighting spirit we all have on the inside that beckons us to never give up—that 'warrior spirit' that is determined to keep fighting no matter the odds. Too many of us women are being defeated by our mindsets and that needs to change.”
To enhance the brand, Watson decided she wanted professionals in various fields of fitness to oversee the project and help create outfits that not only look great, but were also entirely functional. She found hard-working Jamaican trainers who also saw the need for a Jamaican-made, focused brand that delivered that extra motivation they needed from their clients.
And so entered Joel Alexander (Jamaican Bane), crossfit and personal trainer who operates at Barbican football field; Debbie Hall, personal fitness trainer at Hard End Fitness Factory with specialisation in pre and post-natal corrective exercises; and Mark McDonald, a personal fitness trainer at Hard End Fitness Factory.
The Body By Wato logo is a butterfly—which means rebirth.
“I used the butterfly because I love the end result of its transformation. When women wear my pieces, I want them to envision the process of becoming a butterfly. I want them to think it's a new beginning—a new beginning at becoming who they want to be, achieve the goals they want to achieve, and obtain the bodies they desire. The butterfly started out as a caterpillar, working hard against the trials of the daily 'dirt', but it then transformed into an insect with beautiful wings that propels it to glide across the atmosphere elegantly and poised. This is the vision for Body By Wato,” Watson said.
