TRAINER Patrick Smellie, who has been out of the racing loop for a while, found the winners' enclosure on his return on Saturday in the form of OK Dude.

He was also achieving his first winner for the year from four starts. OK Dude, ridden by apprentice Oneil Beckford in a maiden four-year-old event over four furlongs straight (800m), raced with the front-runners for the first two furlongs before skittering away to score by four lengths, ending in a time of 48.1 seconds.

A grey colt, OK Dude is by Burning Marque – Law Lady. This win by Beckford continued his recent noticeable upward trend.

Beckford has now ridden 10 winners since the start of his career as an apprentice on September 26, 2015. Six of those 10 winners were achieved this year.
