He may have fallen under the radar for the couple of months, but a fighting win aboard Pizarro in the 10th race last Saturday could be the turnaround that Linton Steadman needs.

The former champion apprentice has been struggling in recent months to find the winners' enclosure, despite coming close a number of times.

However, victory aboard the Tyrone Princetrained Pizarro, who got the better of Yoga (Wesley Henry) by a short head going five furlongs (1,000m) straight, may be just what the doctor ordered for Steadman.

Although he is a very good rider, Steadman has been dogged by weight issues and his timing seemed to be off this season.

Fortunately, the solid victory on Pizarro showed that he is still capable of getting the job done. With the win, Steadman has now ridden 20 winners this year from 161 mounts.

It is being rumoured that Steadman will be venturing more into the world of freelance riding, especially with the arrival of Dick Cardenas.
