Five held in illegal gun finds

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The police are reporting that five men have been taken into custody following the seizure of three illegal firearms and several rounds of ammunition in separate incidents today.

Reports are that about 12:00 am, a team of officers was on patrol on Hillcrest Avenue, Strathmore Gardens in St Catherine when they signalled the driver of a vehicle to stop.

The driver complied and a search of the vehicle and its occupants revealed two .380 pistols and a magazine containing three .380 rounds of ammunition.

Four men were subsequently arrested in connection with the seizure.

A few hours later, between of 4:20 am and 6:30 am, policemen from the Area 2 Division conducted a special operation in the Steer Town area.

A a 9mm pistol was found in the bathroom ceiling of a house that was searched.

One person has been taken into custody in relation to that find.

The police said the identities of the individuals arrested are being withheld pending further investigations.
