The Ash Wednesday Trophy will highlight today’s midweek 10-race card at Caymanas Park. And a near full field of 14 fit in-form runners will contest the Overnight Allowance call going 1,300 metres for a purse of $1,000,000.

Set to go to post at approximately 4:50 pm with the first post at 12:20 pm, the Ash Wednesday Trophy has included a number of fit and fast horses that include Princess Emmanuel, Lottery Ticket, Gary Glitter, Prolific Princess, Another Bullet along with Ras Emanuel and the old stager Phineas. Any one of the aforementioned runners has the ability to win this race.

However, Lottery Ticket possesses the best most recent form and time over the distance, and with the field not as fierce as it was three races ago, then the five-year-old bay mare could take advantage of what looks a decent pull at the scales to make up for some near misses which is patently becoming her trade mark.

Her main danger could reside in Prolific Princess with the light impost, and who had Lottery Ticket behind when finishing a good second to Orpheus on last when going 100 metres longer.

Leading jockey, claiming apprentice Anthony Thomas will climb aboard Prolific Princess to replace non-claiming apprentice Odeen Edwards in the tack, while Omar Walker will continue in the saddle aboard Lottery Ticket for trainer Wayne DaCosta.

Gary Glitter, trained by Dalton Sirjue, is weighted to have a serious say in the outcome with Odeen Edwards exchanging places with Thomas. With so much lightweights present, the heavy impost of Another Bullet and Ras Emanuel could weigh against their effectiveness though they are expected to have a go at this field.

The event on the card of paramount interest though is the seventh race, where a tidy group of native-bred threeyear- olds gallop in preparation for the upcoming Classic season. Here for the second time for the season three of Wayne DaCosta’s Classic prospects will face the starter for another practice gallop.

They will do so in a three-year-olds and upward, imported threeyear- olds and upward maidens and three-year-olds (NW2) lifetime call, going 1,600 metres for a purse $900,000.

A field of nine will compete amongst them including Harry’s Train, trained by Ian Parsard with Anthony Thomas; Band Of Gold, trained by Wayne DaCosta with Jerome Innis; Drummer Boy, trained by Wayne DaCosta with Omar Walker; Royal Aviator, trained by Marvin Campbell with Oneil Scott; She’s A Banker, trained by Steven Todd with Javaniel Patterson; My Beirut, trained by Richard Azan with Phillip Parchment; Fayrouz, trained by Anthony Nunes with Dick Cardenas; Council Of Trent, trained by Carl Anderson with Linton Steadman; and Storm, trained by Wayne DaCosta with Dane Nelson.

Based on past performance and current form, those who are tipped to make the frame are Drummer Boy, Storm, Royal Aviator and Fayrouz. However, it is sometimes hard to tell with certainty young horses who can improve over night or, in the same breath, disappoint.

Be that as it may, it will be difficult to keep either of those runners out of the frame, but with failure other prospects include My Beirut, Harry’s Train and Band Of Gold. Drummer Boy is expected to win here, but was beaten by Fayrouz and Drone Star while short sprinting.

However, when stretched out on his third outing, he slammed his opponents by all of 6 1/2 lengths after easing down approaching the wire. Even, so he will have to work much harder this time to be a winner as this is a much tougher assignment where better horses will compete.

My Beirut, Aviator, stablemate Storm, and Harry’s Train, along with Fayrouz will provide the Natural Selection son with good runs for the wire, even though not hard trained.
