Relationships are usually sweet and exciting at first – the rapid heartbeats, late nights staying up on the phone saying nothing, the constant WhatsApp messages, and the fantasies. But months or years down the line things can head towards the mundane, as people become comfortable and settle into real life.

How can you get back to your relationship heydays?

Spend time getting to know each other inside out

After the butterflies die, it's this knowledge of your partner that you will need to draw on to rekindle the romance.

Spend time apart

When you are always around someone it makes you complacent and you can start taking your significant other for granted. This is why having interests outside of your relationship is important.

Show gratitude and kindness

Get your partner occasional gifts just because, and say thank you when they do something nice for you. Always show your appreciation, even for the smallest things.

The important thing to remember is that it is dangerous to sit in complacency. The moment you do this, the more likely it is that one or both partners will look elsewhere for excitement.
