Nothing will ever be the same after being broken, but it can be repaired and still be as functional as it used to be. This principle also applies to relationships, and often couples need to fix a problem that is plaguing theirs.

Talk about it

If an issue is never addressed, there is really nothing to fix. It is therefore critical for couples to confront the hard stuff – talk about the problem. You might not want to hear why cheating happened, for example, but it is important for couples to face the truth to find solutions.

Identify the push factor

Once the confession is made, then the trigger needs to be identified to prevent future occurrence. The underlying reason needs to be identified and put on the table.

Try a new formula

Once the trigger is identified, the problem must be addressed. You have do things differently to get a different result.

Limit conversations about what happened

You have already faced what happened and have decided to move on so keep conversations on the present. Move forward with new thoughts and new conversations.

Give time for your partner to heal

Do not expect total forgiveness immediately. Give time for healing and give time and space for venting. Allow the person to go through the different emotions before they recover and give you their heart again.
