KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) is seeking to distance itself from a social media post, which claims there is a $280, 000 payment for workers who were part of its programmes between 1990 and 2019.

"The fake message is asking persons to check an electronic list to see if they qualify for monetary disbursement," said the ministry in an advisory today.

It further stated that while the post displays the ministry's url (mlss.gov.jm), the clickable link is a hoax.

The ministry said the message being circulated did not originate from its offices and advised that it may have been developed to lure unsuspecting persons to a website that has the capability to steal personal information.

The public is being asked to ignore and discontinue sharing this message.
