K C White, a soulful vocalist whose recording career began in the 1970s, died last week in his native Portland. Ian Lewis of the Inner Circle Band, his friend of many years, said White was ill for some time but did not give a cause of death.

White was best known in music circles for covering songs such as No, No, No, The First Cut is The Deepest, and Anywhere But Nowhere.

His originals included Man no Dead and Put A Little Rockin' in Your Life; the latter was produced by Lewis and his brother Roger. His online discography shows that he recorded four albums.

White migrated to the United States in the early 1970, and worked at Brad's, then the leading outlet for reggae music in New York.

He continued to record for various producers including the French company Zola & Zola, for which he did the 1998 album, Reality.
