'Worl Boss' eyes victory

THE island's most skilled 'drifters' will put their talents and reputation to the test come Saturday, February 18, at ATL Bogue City Centre in Montego Bay, St James.

The event, hosted by The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club, is dubbed Wet n' Slide and is the first of 10 rounds of the 2012 National Dexterity Championship. The action begins at 8 p.m.

Maurice 'Worl Boss' Whittingham, overall dexerity champion for 2011, said he's the one to watch for this year's competition.

"I am an accomplished driver, not only in the dexterity championship but the rally championship as well and I never do the same thing at an event," Whittingham told Auto.

"Every time I compete I try to add value, be it performance value or entertainment value. I guarantee a level of competition that is standard," he continued.

Designed to test drivers on their ability to properly manoeuver their vehicles if faced with unexpected situations while driving on the road, a dexterity event is the foundation for motorsports. The event will feature displays of technique and skill on a course complete with strategically placed obstacles. Drivers will compete in five classes: front wheel drive (FWD), rear wheel drive (RWD), four wheel drive (4WD), front wheel drive with limited slip differential (FWD LSD) and rear wheel drive with limited slip differential (RWD LSD).

Wet n' Slide is known for keeping the tarmac slippery so spectators have lots of skids and quick turns to look forward to.

Competitors will be allowed three timed runs of the course and the top ten fastest competitors will qualify for an overall championship round. Trophies and championship points will be awarded dependent on the number of entries per class.

The event promises an entertaining start to the national championship.

Other names to watch out for are Jordan Powell, Cleve 'Cutta Hype' Ottey, Jamar Kinkead, Salvador Davis, Douglas Gore, and Ian Wright with his crowd pleasing 'Big Red Truck'.
