DANCEHALL music echoed through the streets surrounding Skateland in Half-Way Tree, St. Andrew, on Sunday as over 30 auto sound system DJs from across the island battled in a series of 'tune-for-tune' clashes. The event marked the first-ever Guinness Kings of Car Sound Clash and saw competitors facing off for cash prizes, trophies and glory before a crowd of music lovers.

Stuart Duquesnay, event organiser and manager of Supreme Audio and Electronics, pleased with the success of the clash told Auto that plans were in place for more such events.

"It has been a huge success. We've already been hearing comments that we're bringing the sport of clashing back to life and that's something that gives us a great feeling and definitely something we want to keep doing," said Duquesnay.

"We'll be going back to the drawing board now to see how we can improve it for an even bigger and better instalment in the future," he continued.

The battles took place in 5 Categories; 45, 'Dub Fi Dub', Clarity, Old School and Amateur. Car stereo sound-clash veteran Ripton 'Naseve' Wedderburn acted as judge and emcee. Among the crowd favourite competitors were Bad Influence, Ultimate Warrior, War Tanka, City Fusion and Yumi Hi Power, who exited the competition early due to technical difficulties.

Horns blared, lighters flashed and torches lit the air as the crowd showed their support for their favourite car stereo sound systems. Vehicles ranging from Honda Civics to Toyota Fortuners, all modified with ranging from top-of-the-line speakers, amplifiers to large LCD monitors parked side-by-side during each round of the competition. Some DJs stood on the hood of their cars for added impact.

St Catherine-based DJ Archie crushed the competition in the 45 round, winning a trophy and a $45,000 cash prize while Kingston-based Ultimate Warrior walked away with the top spot in the 'Dub-Fi-Dub' round earning a trophy and a cash prize of $35,000. Kingston-based Mack B was deemed victor of the Clarity round winning $10,000 while Montego Bay-based Ruption walked away winner of the Amateur round. Kingston-based Night Rider took the top spot in the Old School round.
