New JRDC head
RACER Charles Chen was nominated new chairman of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) at last Thursday's annual general meeting held at the Liguanea Club in St Andrew.
The JRDC is the body responsible for circuit racing at Dover Raceway in St Ann.
"I respect the platform that the previous administration has left and I see the groundwork from which we can move forward," Chen told Auto.
Chen leads a board of directors consisting of Donovan Montague, Monique Gibbs, Silbourne Clarke, Chressmore White, Patrick Patterson, and Don Thompson.
The new chairman takes over from Norman Minott, who served in that capacity after it was prematurely vacated by Christopher McFarlane.
In response to a decline in both spectators and sponsorship, Chen reassured JRDC members that resources had been put in place for their first race meet scheduled for April 20. He stated that the first step to counter this worrying trend is to start running the club like a business.
"We're currently formulating a business plan based on our impromptu research," he said.
Other key items discussed was the pursuit of alternative revenue streams and measures to increase the quality of the product.
