JAMAICAN driver David Summerbell Jr is set to attend the Top Gear Festival scheduled for Barbados on May 17 and 18.

Summerbell Jr secured his spot by being the top-scoring driver at the Texaco with Techron Carnival of Speed race meet held at Dover Raceway in St Ann on Easter Monday.

Summerbell Jr will join his arch-rival Doug Gore, who was booked for the event. Sydney Adams, a patron at Dover, was also selected at random for the event.

The festival is a coup for Barbados, as it will play host to the live-action version of BBC's popular Top Gear TV show, featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

The event is being held to help launch the multimillion-dollar renovations to Barbados' main circuit Bushy Park. This is the first-ever visit of the Top Gear Festival to this side of the Atlantic.

Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton will drive the Mercedes F1 car in which he won three races last year.

In addition, Top Gear Festival Barbados will host an international round of this year's Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship whose drivers include Gymkhana icon Ken Block, championship skateboarder Bucky Lasek and former Grand Prix driver Scott Speed.
