Manufacturer of building materials, ARC Manufacturing Ltd hopes to push export numbers up to 15 per cent of total revenue come 2019.

The company, which currently exports nails, zinc sheets, fabric mesh, chain-link fencing, roofing tiles and binding wires to the United States and parts of the Caribbean, has secured the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 certificate as its first step in achieving the double-digit revenue target.

Following a rigorous and extensive series of company-wide audits by the National Certification Body of Jamaica (NCBJ), ARC Manufacturing has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certificate of conformity for its comprehensive quality management system.

According to executive chairman of ARC Manufacturing Ltd Norman Horne, the certification will lead to improvements in productivity, stakeholder relations, the company's performance management system, along with improvements in defining and monitoring ARC's planning tools – including key performance indicators.

Ultimately, Horne believes that the certification will boost profitability for the company.

“There is tremendous potential in the export market for building materials, and ARC strives to take advantage of this,” Horne stated. “This ISO certification is globally recognised and respected, so we have no doubt that this will enhance the competitiveness of our business and provide credible proof that the products and services meet acceptable global standards.”

ARC's push to improve export numbers comes on the heels of the company's victory at the first annual Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association Awards Gala, where the building materials manufacturer copped the NCBJ Quality and Standards Award.

Over the past 18 months ARC has been focused on reinforcing the company's culture of quality among its employees with regularly held awareness trainings and seminars, ISO awareness sessions, internal auditing, and other related sensitisation efforts.

“This achievement is a testament to the hard work of the team at ARC, and our commitment to providing our customers with product and service consistency. We have been doing business for over twenty years, and throughout that time we have worked tirelessly on continuously improving our processes and investing in the most efficient systems for the business – so I'm very excited about the prospects that this brings,” Horne continued.

ARC Manufacturing has been operating for the past 22 years and touts itself as one of Jamaica's leading manufacturers of premium-quality building materials.

The company's 18-acre facility in Kingston's industrial district is equipped with seven manufacturing plants, producing an extensive catalogue of roofing and structural profiles, steel and wire products, lumber treatment and other building materials. Today, ARC Manufacturing employs over 400 professionals and serves both local and international markets.
