Jamaican-produced NestlÚ condensed milk back on shelves

Seprod manufacturing NestlÚ brands for local and Caribbean markets

NestlÚ has reintroduced its Full Cream Sweetened Condensed Milk to Jamaican consumers and also introduced a new brand, NestlÚ Green Butterfly Filled Sweetened Condensed Milk. Both brands, which offer consumers a choice in product and price point, are produced through a co-manufacturing agreement with Seprod.

“We are very pleased to be once again in the forefront of the sweetened condensed milk market with the reintroduction of the original NestlÚ Full Cream Sweetened Condensed Milk that the consumer has been missing and asking for,” said Daniel Caron, country manager for NestlÚ Jamaica. “Consumers love the viscosity that NestlÚ Sweetened Condensed Milk provides and we are happy to relaunch these variants to allow persons to enhance their favourite hot beverages; teas, coffee, porridges and even their indulgent treats such as bread pudding, carrot punch, strong back, and many more.”

NestlÚ had sold sweetened condensed milk under the NestlÚ and Betty brands in Jamaica and the Caribbean region for more than 80 years but the products were discontinued manufacturing the product in Jamaica following the sale of their local operations to Seprod in early 2016.

The Betty brand, however, was continued by by Seprod and the demand for sweetened condensed milk remained strong which spurred NestlÚ to re-enter the market.

“Since the closure of our manufacturing operations in 2016, Jamaican consumers have been repeatedly asking for the return of our high -quality NestlÚ Full Cream Sweetened Condensed milk,” Caron explained. ”This has prompted our re-entry into this market. The quality of our products is always our top priority. Delighting our consumers with high-quality products is our mission.”

The NestlÚ Full Cream Sweetened Condensed Milk contains eight per cent milk fat while the milk fat content of the NestlÚ Green Butterfly Filled Sweetened Condensed Milk stands at six per cent.

The two brands were recently nominated in the Best New Product 2019 category of the Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards which will take place on Thursday, May 30, 2019.

The NestlÚ Full Cream Sweetened Condensed Milk is manufactured for the Jamaican market while Green Butterfly is a regional Caribbean brand which is now produced in Jamaica (and in Trinidad for the evaporated milk product) and exported to the Anglo-Dutch Caribbean region including the territories of Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Cayman Islands, Saint Martin, Turks and Caicos Islands, The Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago.

The co-manufacturing partnership with Seprod sees NestlÚ selling and marketing the brands directly to the customer and consumer while Seprod is the producer of the two new SKU's.

Launched in March of this year, NestlÚ's sweetened condensed milks are available in multiple locations across Jamaica including wholesalers, supermarkets, small mom-and-pop stores, as well as other alternative channels. Small businesses and offices will also be able to purchase the products from the NestlÚ Wholesale Depot which is located at the Head Office and Distribution Centre at Ferry Pen in St Catherine.

“NestlÚ will promote, distribute and market both products directly using the traditional marketing channels as well as embracing the new media platforms such as the e–Commerce channel to offer up greater value and convenience to shoppers,” Caron revealed.

The country manager went on to express his pride in the project and his enthusiasm for the partnership between NestlÚ and Seprod.

“We are proud to support Jamaica in its leadership role in manufacturing in the Caribbean region,” he stated. “We are extremely pleased to re-enter the Jamaican market with our choice of sweetened condensed milks, giving the consumer the high quality products that they have come to know, love and rely on. We are also very happy to be partnering with Seprod and look forward to a long and successful relationship with our new partners.”
