Do you feel good about money?
How is your money feeling?
It may feel as if the more hours you work, the further you retreat from your financial goals. And you may not have particularly grand plans, but just want to live a comfortable life and not be stressed about paying your bills.
Now, there is a long list of situations and circumstances that you could blame for your current situation, and I would tend to agree with you. However, I want to share with you what I have learnt over the past few years.
When working harder and longer hours isn’t being reflected in our bank balance, we need to look at our mindset about money.
According to Eckhart Tolle, “A person’s thinking and beliefs are conditioned by their past: their upbringing and the culture they live in.”
And so, it may be time to shift our money mindset from lack to one of plenty. Can you think of a time when you felt good about your financial situation? Or felt that something good was about to happen?
-What do you tell yourself about money when you feel good?
-Which memories or self-talk about money do you use when you feel stressed, happy or angry?
-What situations, people or stressors cause you to switch to a different feeling about money?
-How do people see you in terms of your abilities?
-Would your parents and friends agree with what you feel about money?
-How do your money beliefs and financial self-talk complement or conflict with those of other significant people in your life?
All of your feelings about money, whether they be good or bad, have benefits. You need to find the lessons in your feelings to guide you toward making the best of your current financial challenges.
So, having taken the time to answer the questions above, let’s turn the focus to abundance. We want to shift our minds to seeing the future we want rather than beat up ourselves about the current situation that we may not like.
And trust me, as the president of the “beat up yourself over money” club, I know it is a process. Getting to a state of mental abundance does not happen overnight.
There are four holistic approaches to reaching a state of mental abundance. Many practitioners advise that you take your time and be kind to yourself as you grow in your awareness of how you speak to yourself about money.
1. A life of abundance can be as simple as imagining a better future now. You can literally choose to think about a better future. Where you are right now is a result of the choices you made in the past. So if you want a better future, imagine what better choices you can make today.
2. Stop being so hard on yourself.
Yes, you need to face reality. You actually have the power to change your life and the way you talk to yourself. Start speaking kindly to yourself about the future that you want.
3. Write down the future that you want.
This will help you to design a plan to help you achieve your goals.
4. Are you led by fear or faith?
Fear can trap you into making one bad decision after another. Faith is the belief that you can achieve. Which one is guiding you?
One of the key ways to shift your feelings about money is to speak to professionals who know how to help you build wealth. I always recommend that you don’t fight the battle alone.
