Intcomex enters security market with surveillance cameras
Friday, March 12, 2010
INTCOMEX, Jamaica's largest distributor of computers and accesories, is turning its attention to security, launching a series of surveillance cameras that the company says offer the best in video surveillance technology.
The Arecount Vision, ACTi and Vivotek brands of cameras were unveiled last Wednesday at an IP surveillance symposium -- a collaboration between INTCOMEX and Mobile Virtual Office -- at the Waterfalls restaurant in Kingston.
The cameras, which offer high-tech resolution and can be powered over the Ethernet ranges from J$24, 000 - $30,000.
Arecont Vision outsource sales and marketing representative for Latin America and the Caribbean Walter Hawrys, who was the sole presenter at the symposium, said that the cameras offer 180 and 360-degree views.
"One AV8 180 camera replaces 24 analog cameras" he said
"The cameras can also detect things such as numbers on a licence plate,'' he explained, pointing out that apart from wider coverage, the cameras were also cheaper to install and require less man power because they offer higher resolution.
"IP cameras offer increased resolution, the ability to detect behaviour and the ability to take advantage of what is by far the most pervasive infrastructure, that is network, and the bottom line to any good product is that you save money and you do save money," he said.
Meanwhile, INTCOMEX category manager Caryl Fenton-McDonald said the company wanted to be on board with the rest of the world in offering high-quality video surveillance technology.
"The cameras are better at facial recognition and the VGA technology which the older model, the analog camera, uses, although it can be upgraded, will not give such a strong quality," she said.
