Industrial action closes VMBS branches
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) was forced to close a number of its branches today resulting from an industrial action.
According to VMBS, some employees took the action despite assurances by management that further meetings to discuss claims for additional incentive payments would have been convened at the highest level early next week.
VMBS in a statement Friday afternoon said that it has referred the matter to the Ministry of Labour and “hopes that normality will be restored at the earliest possible time.” The Ministry has invited the parties to attend a conciliation meeting at 2:00 pm today.
In the meantime the building society says that members may use their ATM cards free of charge at any point-of-sale terminal or ABM machines on the Multilink network.
