SeaFreight resumes service to quake-hit Haiti

Sunday, February 07, 2010

SEAFREIGHT Line has resumed providing freight carrier service to Haiti, the Caribbean country ravaged by a massive earthquake last month.

The regional sea freight operator announced in a press release last week that service to Haiti's capital city, Port-au-Prince, resumed on January 27. Service had been suspended since the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake of January 12.

"We are pleased to report that our office in Haiti has opened for business and our staff are all well," said SeaFreight in the release. "We will be sailing from Jacksonville FL every Monday and Port Everglades FL every Wednesday and Friday connecting over Kingston, Jamaica into our dedicated Haiti Feeder Vessel, the M/V Orso."

The company added that it anticipates to sail the Orso from Kingston on a continuous dedicated loop with an average of two sailings per week.

"Additionally, we will begin accepting cargo for PAP at all of our Ports of call on the regular scheduled day of departure with connection over Kingston," said SeaFreight, adding that due to the situation in Haiti there are a number of restrictions that apply.
