Xerox Corp is expanding its business in Jamaica with the planned addition of five new customer care and business process centers during the next year. The new centres are planned for both Montego Bay and Kingston.

"Xerox is the largest and most established business process provider in Jamaica," said Leroy Reid, Xerox's country manager, in a recent news release.

"In addition to Jamaica's close proximity to major markets, its well-educated workforce is the driving component that makes the country a key player in the global customer care sector," Reid said.

The company recently announced a new 25,000 sq.-ft. facility in the Barnett Tech Park in Montego Bay employing 450 customer care agents, according to a news release. And in 2016 the company plans to build another facility at the park, double the size at 50,000 sq.-ft. and employing some 900 people.

In addition, Xerox will be adding three more Kingston-based customer care facilities during 2015 -- adding more than 1,000 agents, the release said. The company currently employs some 6,000 people at its five sites in Montego Bay and two facilities in Kingston.

"Xerox's global footprint in 180 countries is a business advantage we can offer our clients who operate around the world," said Tom Corne, vice president of global real estate and facilities. "While we're supporting our clients' ability to serve their customers, we are also building a better workplace for our employees."

Xerox's customer care presence in Jamaica can be traced to 2000 when it opened its first customer care facility. The company expanded its presence with a second facility in 2008 and again with an acquisition in 2009. In addition to the two new facilities in the Barnett Tech Park, Xerox's new facilities in Kingston are located at 10-16 Grenada Way, 7 Haining Road and at 1C-1F Pawsey Road.

The agents in the new facilities will join Xerox's 55,000 customer care agents around the world who handle more than 2.5 million interactions daily from 160 facilities in about 30 languages.
