Country Message > Jamaica

The Jamaica Race Drivers' Club (JRDC) is extremely pleased to have been invited by the Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL) to participate in their Williams Digicel International Race Meet on August 28 at Bushy Park, to take part in the second leg of the 2011 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) Series as well as to join with them to celebrate forty years since the establishment of the Bushy Park race track.

The JRDC has fielded a full complement of six drivers for this the second leg of the CMRC 2011 series in Barbados as we continue our "Reggae Racers Regain" campaign to capture the two titles.  It is our intention to 'regain' the coveted CMRC Country Title we last held in 2008. In addition, we intend to 'retain' the Overall Champion Driver Title which would hand David Summerbell Jr. an unprecedented seventh CMRC Title as well as a hat trick after winning the Champion Driver Title back to back over the last two years. Included in Jamaica's "Reggae Racers" team are three motorcyclists whom we expect to carry the fight to the best riders out of Guyana and Barbados. I wish the "Reggae Racers" all the best in their endeavours.

Seaboard Marine's involvement in the CMRC Series has undoubtedly helped the Caribbean circuit racing Clubs to take the sport to the next level. I would like to express our sincere thanks to the company's management.  Many thanks as well to Williams Industries and Digicel for their continued assistance to the development of our sport in Barbados and all the many sponsors without whose support we would not be able to remain on the path of elevating motorsport to the number one spectator sport across the region. I heartily congratulate Mr. Ralph 'bizzy' Williams and his associates, for their foresight and determination, forty years ago, when they built the Bushy Park Circuit. This facility has provided lots of excitement and entertainment for Caribbean people and more importantly Barbadians.  Myself and several close friends have enjoyed thrilling times at this facility over the many years.  As we celebrate Bushy Park's 40th Anniversary milestone, we also look forward to its planned redevelopment and many more years of thrills, spills, entertainment and excitement for future generations to enjoy.

We greatly appreciate the partnership of Jamaica Observer for setting up this web page so that our fellow Jamaicans and the rest of the world can watch the races live on Jamaica Observer's website and be kept up to date with all that will be going on in Barbados. Their support over the series has really increased the exposure of motor racing both locally and internationally.

This kind of event takes super human effort to organise. I must therefore commend the management of BARL and everyone involved in its staging. Good wish to all for a very successful Event. On behalf of our Team, the Reggae Racers. I express a huge amount of gratitude to all the volunteer marshals and officials without whom this event would not be possible. To the many competitors, have a competitive and safe day of racing. To the many spectators, do enjoy yourselves  and remember, don't race on the roads, race only on the race track.
