In 1992 while this columnist was on a Fulbright in Georgia, that state's legislature changed the regulations to make Spanish its second 'official' language, co-equal with English in the conduct of in-state bureaucratic matters.

This brought Georgia into line with Florida, which had adopted bi-lingualism many years earlier. It also signalled that the low-water mark of immigrants pressing up into the US from Latin America had reached the Peachtree state.

Not for the first time, I thought of ancient Rome, which after six centuries of empire succumbed to the relentless demographic pressure of 'barbarian hordes' descending upon it from the north.

Of course, the peoples of South and Central America and the Caribbean aren't barbarians (though sometimes, reading the papers, you have to wonder); but we are, too, a consequence of empire and, as such, part of the endgame in the imperial paradigm in which conquering nations enrich themselves by plundering the resources of the conquered, whose citizenry next abandon their impoverished environments and migrate to the heart of the empire in search of a better life.

The connection between, say, the gallivanting of the French in North Africa a century ago and the recent 'Muslim' riots in France exploits of the United Fruit Company - and the 12 million illegal immigrants currently at large in the US - is so direct, it can be rendered by a hyphen.

And just as, 2,000 years ago, Rome's beleaguered emperor Hadrian built his famous wall clear across Great Britain in a doomed attempt to keep the wild Scots-people out - or as, four centuries before Hadrian, the Chinese erected their first version of the Great Wall to try to hold back the nomadic tribes from what's today Manchuria and Mongolia from encroaching upon their terrain - the Bush Administration is currently under increasing pressure from xenophobes like CNN's Lou Dobbs and romantic 'frontier' types like the Vigilantes (currently trying to patrol not only the US-Mexican border but the US-Canadian border as well) to wall off - literally! - the United States from encroachment by the 'blind mouths' of the impoverished South, chiefly Mexico.

Of course, in an age of planes, trains and automobiles, they're even less likely to succeed than Hadrian or the ancient Chinese. (The latter didn't do too badly, actually.) If anything is certain in this chaotically changing world, it's that 100 years from now Spanish will be the 'first', not the second, language of the United States (and there'll be many more 'Jamericans' than Jamaicans).

So the day of WASP dominance in the US is slowly drawing to a close. And no student of history should be surprised if, before then, faced with an inexorably rising mestizo tide, the recalcitrant minority of white Americans possessed of Hitlerian hopes and horrors try to mount a sort of Custer's last stand - or a series of 'last stands' - in defence of their racial 'purity'.

(That DNA technology is even now showing such purity to be a myth is no more likely to deter them than the discovery of dinosaur fossils or- the same DNA- is to give pause to Creationists and their 6,000-year-old Earth.)

The Ku Klux Klan was in fact one such 'last stand'. The Klan defended segregation wherever it could, but most determinedly in those places where bodily contact with non-whites might occur - buses, restaurants, rest rooms - this, since at the heart of its hysteria was a nightmare about black men despoiling white women.

Another was the epochal transfer in the 60s of political loyalty by the white South from the Democratic to the Republican party in rebellion against Lyndon Johnson's civil rights' agenda. (Indeed, the Bushes, father and son, took turns pressing the same racial button en route to amassing the support they needed to propel them into the Oval Office.)

In between and since the heyday of the Klan and the Goldwater Republicans, there've been other notable American white supremacists; and no doubt there'll be yet others.

But for sheer spookiness, none is likely to beat Prussian Blue, the singing duo comprised of a pair of 'lovely and talented' blonde 12-year-old twins - named, believe it or not, Lynx and Lamb - the daughters of a National Vanguard writer-activist, who, in the words of one reviewer, 'make beautiful, soaring, harmonious music together, music with a pro-White slant'.

Lynx plays the violin and sings. Lamb plays the guitar and sings. They're allegedly 'the most talked-about duo in the burgeoning Euromusic scene'.

Originally from Bakersfield, California, the twins have been performing songs about white nationalism before all-white crowds since they were nine. 'We're proud of being white,' says Lynx. 'We want our people to stay white.We don't want to just be, you know, a big muddle.'

On Lynx's and Lamb's dimpled shoulders rest the hopes of white supremacists like Rich Lindstrom, National Vanguard Northeast Regional Coodinator. Through Prussian Blue, says Lindstrom, 'I see an avenue opening up to family-oriented white men, women, and children that has not been opened before.

These gals will be breaking new ground, and will also capture the imagination of young boys and girls all across the world. The impact could be huge and their influence will encourage copycats...creating an entire genre of pro-White music. I'm hanging on the edge of my seat with anticipation.'

Prussian Blue. The name, explained Lynx (or Lamb) to Viceland magazine's Jesse Pearson, derived from the fact that 'part of our heritage is Prussian German. Also our eyes are blue, and Prussian Blue is just a really pretty colour.'

But did the 12-year-olds stop there? Nossir. They went on (and this is supposed to be them talking): 'There is also the discussion of the lack of 'Prussian Blue' colouring (Zyklon B residue) in the so-called gas chambers in the concentration camps.

We think it might make people question some of the inaccuracies of the 'Holocaust' myth.'

Of course, that's only the beginning of Lynx's and Lamb's weltanschaaung: the twins have views on many things. Such as (in response to the question: 'What do you think is the most important social issue facing the white race right now?'):

'Not having enough white babies born to replace ourselves and generally not having good-quality white people being born. It seems like smart white girls who have good eugenics are more interested in making money in a career or partying than getting married and having a family.

Good eugenics. What a phrase to fall from the lips of girl-children!
By comparison with such spookiness, the no-nonsense sexual antics of their fictional contemporary, little, depraved Lolita ('You mean,' she persisted, now kneeling above me, 'You never did it when you were a kid?' 'Never,' I said quite truthfully. 'Okay,' said Lolita, 'here is where we start') seems like the sunniest innocence: good, clean sex-play.

Of course, you'd have to be a credulous fool, a veritable Humbert Humbert of the gene pools, not to suspect that little blonde Lynx and little blonde Lamb aren't something even more queasy-making than the prepubescent planners of eugenically-correct copulation - to wit, the (quite brainwashed) ventriloquist's puppets of their parents' racial neuroses.

Says their mother-manager, one April Gaede, of Lynx's and Lamb's new Web site: 'We have a lot more to add, like a fashion page (for Lamb and Lynx to direct girls to sites on ethnic costumes, etc.), a lyrics page, as well as a heroes page with White nationalists as well as White sports heroes, etc.'

White supremacist sympathisers, says Lamb, (or Lynx) 'need to realise that this is not a game and that it is serious business, even though it can also be fun to be around other racially aware people.'
Fun? How 'fun'?

Still, it may be too easy to poke, well, fun at these weirdly damaged children: one never knows where and when and how the next Nazi avalanche will begin in earnest. Prussian Blue have sung their folksy versions of classic racist songs 'by bands like Skrewdriver and Rahowa' at county fairs and Renaissance fairs and open mike nights. They play at a lot of National Vanguard events, as well as events like a recent Institute for Historical Review conference.
They've a music video out, with the Wagnerian name, 'Gathering of the Gods', and also a new CD, 'Fragment of the Future'; the title is from a quote by a leading British 'race dissident'.

Among Prussian Blue's songs are 'The Road to Valhalla' (in which the Vikings are fighting some 'monsters'); 'Our Vinland' ('because we are in America, which is Vinland for us Vikings'); 'Panzerlied', a German military song

('We laid many tracks over each other so that it sounds like many kids singing as they march down a street'); and 'I Will Bleed for You', a song by white supremacist Ken McLellen. ('I see you all around me,/ I see the apathy in your eyes,/ Knowing not what it means to be free,/ watching as the white flame dies.')

Recounted Lamb (or Lynx): 'We recently sang this song to audition to play at a local event and everyone loved it. The act that auditioned before us was a group of pretty White teenage girls dressed like whiggers with baggy pants and their hats on backwards. They did this horrible cheer dance to rap music.

They really weren't very good, but it was a big contrast when we set up and played our own instruments and sang. Everyone looked at us like they couldn't believe it. When we sang we sang to those girls as they stood and watched us.'

Writes Viceland Jesse Pearson (one hopes, tongue in cheek): 'And the best part of it all? These girls have the talent to back it all up. They sing like angels, harmonise like only siblings can, and are more adept at their chosen instruments than most one-hit-wonder crap. 'Disco punk,' you say? 'New wave of necro metal?' Those are passing fancies. Prussian Blue are doing nothing short of trying to change the course of humanity'.

ABC News was less ambiguous. 'Young Singers Spread Racist Hate' ran the title of its November 4 story.

Prussian Blue supporter Erich Gliebe, operator of one of the US's hate music labels, Resistance Records, says he hopes that as younger racist listeners mature, so will their tastes for 'harder, angrier music', like that of Shawn Sugg of Max Resist. One of Sugg's songs is a fantasy piece about a possible future racial war that goes: 'Let the cities burn, let the streets run red,/ if you ain't white you'll be dead.'

'I like to compare it to gangsta rap,' explained Sugg pleasantly, 'where they glorify, you know, shooting niggers and pimping whores.'

Still, concluded ABC reassuringly, 'most Americans don't accept their racist message'. Lamb's and Lynx's donated supplies, intended for the - white - victims of Hurricane Katrina, found few takers. They wound up being dumped at a local shop selling Confederate memorabilia.
