Dear Editor,

The losing candidate in the presidential race for the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) presidency, Ambassador Stewart Stephenson strikes me as the type of person who could do much to transform the JFF.

I would gamble that he has the acumen and appeal to woo the international football fraternity as well as court big sponsors and football backers in a way to encourage them to believe in his mission, doubtless he would not be fettered by the status quo of the JFF and, finally, that he has an enterprising mind towards transforming Jamaica's football out of debilitating debt.

The winning candidate Michael Ricketts, while deserving of congratulations, does not strike me as being as endowed. Therefore, I think that preservation of the JFF was a big factor in the consideration by the voters, as well as perhaps Ricketts' loyalty to that federation, and his kind of connectedness that voters tend to like — “our man come up through the ranks” kind of thing.

We will see, and I wish them all well.
