Dear Editor,

A statement written or publicly uttered may fall into one of the following categories:

(a) It may factual and provable, and therefore acceptable.

(b) It may be libellous and untrue, and therefore liable for legal recourse.

(c) It may be frivolous and inane, and therefore ignored for its lack of probity.

I believe that the statement by Krystal Tomlinson, of the People's National Party's Youth Organisation, in which she compares the prime minister to Adolf Hitler, falls under the last category.

She is indeed expressing a nave and disrespectful opinion, but any attempt to give it credibility will only provide her with unearned popularity.

An apology may very well be in order, but if not forthcoming this will in no way detract from the integrity or character of the prime minister, nor will it in any way enhance that of Tomlinson.
