Dear Editor,

The Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) would like to express concern about the increasing number of children going missing, those being killed and the frequent reports of the brutal attacks on school-aged children.

Recently, there were reports of a Trench Town child who attended Kingston Technical High School ,and the incident of a St Ann child who attended Ocho Rios High School going missing and later being found dead.

The JTA believes the luring and killing of the students bring into sharp focus the dangers to which our children in schools and some communities are exposed.

The association categorically condemns the latest killings and stands ready to assist the Government and civil society in whatever way possible to devise strategies to stem these vicious attacks on our children so that the business of education is not frequently interrupted.

Law-abiding citizens should also make their voices heard, as an attack on our children is a threat to the teaching profession and, by extension, the education sector and the stability of the nation.
