Dear Editor,

It is rather disgraceful and disturbing the manner in which we deal with and handle our iconic characters. Fitzroy Simpson is so right in coming out in defence of Coach Theodore Whitmore in the manner in which he is being handled by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).

Whitmore has been doing a tremendous job since his ascent to the post as head coach of the senior Reggae Boyz. The money being paid to him is definitely a low call from the JFF. Those in authority need to look carefully into this and do some level of soul-searching to come to some amicable resolution to this situation.

This just isn't fair, and it is not right for the head coach of any football federation throughout the world to be getting such stingy remunerations for the invaluable efforts.

The Reggae Boyz team is like a household name across the globe, so why should this great ambassador get such remuneration. Something drastic has to be done to ensure the dignity and pride of this our flag bearer for our unique quest to France in 1998.

We need some more men with testosterone in positions of authority to speak up on this sad occurrence, or women with strong native genes.

If we continue to undervalue the talents of our icons we will be fed with mediocre talents in future, because good talent will choose other places where remuneration is given to match with the work outputs. This is why we end up with so many talented Jamaicans going to greener pastures for their personal achievement. Many of our coaches will be used in other countries if we don't fix our unbecoming situation.

Would they think of quoting a figure of US$3,000 to Coach Winfried Schaefer?

I rest my case.
